Meet your counsellor

Dr Nia Young

Counsellor

MNCPS Accred.

Life can feel especially heavy when you are carrying the needs of other people alongside your own. You might be a parent trying to stay strong for your family, an educator feeling stretched by the demands of your role, a young person facing school or identity pressures, or simply someone who has been holding too much for too long.

I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can pause, feel heard and work through what is happening at your own pace. You do not need to have everything clearly worked out before reaching out. We can begin with what feels most important to you and find gentle, practical ways forward together.

What Working With Me Is Like

Therapy with me is collaborative and shaped around you. My approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centred counselling. I aim to create a warm, accepting relationship where you can explore your experiences without judgement and at a pace that feels manageable.

Narrative Therapy can help us look at the stories you have come to believe about yourself and consider which still fit and which may no longer be helpful. ACT can help you make space for difficult thoughts and feelings while reconnecting with what matters to you. At other times, you may simply need somewhere to reflect, or practical strategies that make everyday life feel a little easier.

I work with people living many different stories, with particular experience supporting educators experiencing stress or burnout, parents adjusting to parenthood or facing postnatal challenges, children and young people dealing with anxiety, confidence, identity or school pressures, and students carrying the weight of academic expectations. Whatever brings you to counselling, my aim is to meet you with empathy, curiosity and understanding.

I have more than ten years of experience supporting educators and students, and my wider academic work has focused strongly on children and young people.
