Suzy Clarkson
Whatever it is that brought you here today, I invite you to pause for a moment and see if I can help you explore, cope, understand, and change, if necessary, this phase of your life for the better.
I am an integrative counsellor, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioural models. This means that I adapt our work to meet your unique needs, whether that is exploring your past, developing new coping strategies, or creating a safe space for you to process feelings in the here and now. I also bring in elements of cognitive therapy, transactional analysis, acceptance and commitment therapy, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness, alongside grounding techniques for moments of emotional crisis.
I work with people experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, and workplace stress. My role is to help you unload your concerns, unlock the patterns behind your thoughts and behaviours, replace behaviours that no longer serve you, and unleash your potential to live a fuller and more confident life, whatever that looks like to you.
More information...
Alongside my private counselling practice, I am a Lecturer, Placement Coordinator, and Pastoral Tutor on the MSc Counselling Psychology course at Bangor University. I also complete sessional counselling work for the NHS Primary Mental Health Care and Prescribed Medication Team, and for The Mix, a national service offering free, confidential mental health and wellbeing support to young people. In my academic and professional life, I also serve as Deputy Director of the Centre for Evidence Based Early Intervention and as the UK Hub KiVa Coordinator, having been an accredited KiVa Anti-Bullying trainer for nearly fifteen years, training primary and secondary school teachers to deliver and deal with bullying incidents effectively.
My academic background includes a BSc in Psychology, an MSc by Research in Psychology, an MSc in Counselling, and a PhD on implementing KiVa in the UK. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), and a core member of the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, but I am here to help you with that step and support you with choosing the steps that follow counselling. Whether you are looking for short-term support or a longer-term therapeutic journey, I will meet you where you are, with warmth, empathy, and respect. Together, we can explore your experiences, find clarity, and take steps towards the next phase of your life.
